Sapphire

Welcome to Sapphire's class page!

Autumn Term 2

The children have returned from October half term with a continued enthusiasm for their learning! All of them have individual targets that they are working towards in their lessons and are incredibly keen to achieve. Their curiosity continues to grow as they ask intelligent questions to further their knowledge and understanding. We have now finished our first cycle of learning and have moved on to our second cycle titled 'What a Wonderful World'.

Sapphire class will be taught by Mrs Maloney and supported by Mrs Dearne. On Fridays, Miss Shaw will be covering.

Homework

We would like to request your support in continuing your child's learning at home through weekly homework. Homework will be set each Thursday and will be due back the following Thursday.

* Maths and English homework will be completed through the online learning platform called 'Atom'. Children's log in details are on the back of their new Learning Logs.

* Children will also be expected to read five times a week for a minimum of 15 minutes. Please ensure to sign your child's Learning Log as these will be checked daily by adults in the classroom.

* Children will be provided with weekly spelling lists which will link to their in-class spelling lessons. Spelling tests will take place on a Thursday.

* Once the children are settled into their new routine, we will begin to set TT Rockstar competitions, which will also be accessible online.

PE Days

Sapphire's PE days will be Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure children come into school with suitable clothing for the weather on that day. At least one of the PE sessions will be outside, even when it is cold!

Cycle 2 - What a Wonderful World

Our learning this cycle is based around volcanoes and earthquakes, looking at how and why these happen, linking these with what the impact of these are. We will be looking at the story of The Firework Makers Daughter in English. We will also be looking at Forces, and earth and space in science, learning about Newton's third law of motion and how the Solar system moves and how its affects us here on Earth.

We have been so excited to welcome the children back to school following the summer holidays! They have returned with a real enthusiasm for their learning and are keen to give everything a go. They have already taken part in a number of baseline assessments to allow for individual targets to be set and ready to be worked on.

Cycle 1 – People of our world

Our learning this cycle is based around Ancient Maya. We will be looking at the story of the hero twins in English and exploring how their daily life compares to ours today. We will also be looking at Properties and changes of materials in science.
